Face to Face
For over 20 years, Dr. Finn has participated in the FACE TO FACE Program, the humanitarian wing of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (AAFPRS). Dr. Finn recently finished a three year term as Chair of the FACE TO FACE Committee, where he worked diligently to expand the program and has encouraged many other facial plastic surgeons to participate as well. The program is split into three separate areas: FACE TO FACE International, THE NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROJECT, and FACES OF HONOR. FACE TO FACE International focuses on bringing surgical aid to children and people of all ages in areas of the world where the demand for facial reconstructive surgery severely exceeds the capacity of the medical system. THE NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROJECT provides free surgical procedures to victims of domestic violence abuse. FACES OF HONOR is the latest initiative of the FACE TO FACE Program. FACES OF HONOR offers free reconstructive surgery to wounded veterans who have sustained facial, head, and neck injuries in the line of duty.
Dr. Finn strongly believes in giving back to those less fortunate. Dr. Finn has completed pro bono medical mission trips to China, Peru, the Dominican Republic, and five trips to Guatemala. He and his wife founded a medical mission trip to Guatemala 2011 and have returned with a medical team every year since. He puts together a team of physicians, nurses, anesthesia, and support staff from all over the United States. They address a multitude of facial reconstructive needs that are present in the community, including repair of microtia (underdeveloped ear), cleft lip and palate, traumatic nasal fractures, scar contractures, and many others. In addition to performing pro bono surgery, a large part of the international mission trip is dedicated toward education of local medical professionals.
Dr. Finn has taken part in the National Domestic Violence Project, performing pro bono surgeries on the victims of domestic violence over the last 20 years. Dr. Finn currently serves on the medical advisory board of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, (NCADV).
There is a hotline for victims of domestic violence to call where they can find participating physicians all across the United States: 1-800 842-4546. Once the patient has successfully passed the screening, he or she is referred to one of the 250 volunteer surgeons around the country who performs the necessary procedures at no charge.
We frequently have patients and friends who want to contribute to these charitable efforts. To this end, Dr. Finn and his wife also started their own non-profit organization called THE F.I.N.N Foundation (Filling International and National Needs). 100% of funds donated go directly toward the international medical mission trips and to help with local patients in need. Locally, the Foundation supports surgery in medical treatment for patients who have fallen through the cracks. The Foundation has been in partnership with TROSA to help those fighting to overcome drug and alcohol addiction. The Foundation also performs pro bono surgeries on a case-by-case basis for local patients in need without adequate financial resources. Finn Facial Plastics and the FINN Foundation are fully committed to helping those in need, in both our local community and abroad!
FACES OF HONOR
FACES OF HONOR is the latest initiative of the FACE TO FACE Program. FACES OF HONOR offers free reconstructive surgery to wounded veterans who have sustained facial, head, and neck injuries in the line of duty. While the Department of Veteran Affairs does an excellent job providing medical care to wounded veterans, they do not always have access to the latest equipment that is commonly found in the practices of plastic surgeons. In many cases, the veterans have to travel hundreds of miles to the nearest VA Hospital. The free services from volunteer surgeons make it much easier for the patient. The program runs a toll free number, (703) 299-9291 to put injured veterans in touch with one of the program’s volunteer surgeons. Dr. Finn is honored to be a part of this program; he strongly believes in giving back to the men and woman who have sacrificed for their country.
Also, while Dr. Finn was Chair of the FACE TO FACE committee, he helped develop a database designed to improve consistent, accessible record keeping and improve quality of care provided within each program. It can capture critical statistics about international trips and patients treated through FACES OF HONOR and THE NATIONAL DOMESTIC VIOLENCE PROJECT. Dr. Finn is a firm believer in giving back. In addition to participating in all these wonderful programs, he also started his own non-profit organization called THE F.I.N.N Foundation (Filling International and National Needs). He is fully committed to helping those in need, in both our local community and abroad!
